Accelerated Reader
We Are Buggy About Books!
The Accelerated Reader (AR) program at Truman Elementary School continues to help all students. All the students take a S.T.A.R. reading test that is used to determine the reading level of each student. Students choose their own books that fall within their determined level and read them at their own pace. Students then take a short quiz on the computer working toward an quarterly goal set by using a formula based on the reader's level.

AR Family Reading Night
To help students make their goals and involve families, the school holds an AR Family Reading Night once a month. On this night, parents are encouraged to come in and read with their child. The child then will take a quiz on that book. Students who come in on AR Family Night and read and take a test can put their name in a drawing for a free book. AR Family Reading Nights are held on Tuesdays and you can download a complete schedule of all AR Family Reading Nights.
Parent Information
Parents and students can use the Home Connect to see your child's progress in AR. You can view your child's accuracy and progress towards their book level and point goals. If you have any questions about these goals, or your child's progress, please contact your child's teacher or Mrs. Hinshaw.
